About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and management of range of conditions , particularly involving the spine, joints and muscles.

Chiropractors are trained to assess how the body moves and functions, and how problems in the joints, muscles and nervous system may contribute to pain, stiffness and reduced mobility. Treatment is tailored to the individual and is based on a thorough assessment and diagnosis.

Chiropractors in the UK are statutorily regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Chiropractic care aims to support movement, reduce discomfort and improve function, particularly where symptoms are related to the muscles, joints and spine.

Chiropractic may help with a range of conditions, including:

  • Back pain and backache (not arising from injury or accident)
  • Mechanical neck pain
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Muscle tension and spasms
  • Headaches arising from the neck (cervicogenic headaches)
  • Sciatica
  • General aches and pains
  • Minor sports injuries and tensions

Treatment plans are individualised and may include manual therapy, joint mobilisation or manipulation, soft-tissue techniques, exercise advice and lifestyle guidance.

What to Expect at a Chiropractic Appointment

Your consultation will begin with a detailed consultation, which includes:

  • A discussion of your symptoms and medical history
  • Assessment of posture, movement and joint function
  • Orthopaedic and neurological examination where appropriate

Following assessment, we will explain our findings and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate for you. If chiropractic is not suitable, or if further investigation or referral is required, we will advise you accordingly.

A Whole-Person Approach

McTimoney Chiropractic care does not focus solely on symptoms. It also considers factors such as posture, movement habits, work demands, exercise and daily activities that may be contributing to your problem.

Many patients choose chiropractic care to help them move more comfortably, stay active, and manage a range of conditions as part of a broader approach to their health.
